This workspace moves from student-experience ratings to student-described evidence and then to connections across those perspectives, helping reviewers understand the learning environment, inspect the evidence behind the summaries, and identify questions for curriculum review.
What evidence am I reviewing?
Student-experience ratings across recent academic cycles, with change indicators shown only when the measures can be compared directly.
Annual Cohort Survey and AFPC Graduating Student Survey are shown separately because they provide different perspectives on the learning environment.
Student comments are summarized to add context to the ratings. Annual Cohort Survey evidence can also be inspected by program year where the source supports it. These summaries do not indicate how common a view was.
What should I notice as I review this evidence?
Students consistently named patient‑case seminars, instructor walkthroughs, and regular formative quizzes as the learning activities that most supported clinical reasoning and exam preparation; cohort items show seminar experiences (72.3% agree/strongly agree) and teaching methods supporting outcomes (73.1%) are broadly endorsed.
Although a majority rated fairness positively at the cohort level (70.6% agree/strongly agree for assessment fairness), many narrative responses described exams as nit‑picky, focused on small CPS/readings details, or ambiguous — students asked for clearer scopes, answer formats, and exam reviews.
Students flagged uneven pacing across lectures/seminars, redundancy across courses, and heavy workload concentrated in particular terms; PHARM 448 (capstone) and tight sequencing (e.g., labs/semantics scheduled too near lectures) were repeatedly singled out as anxiety‑inducing and poorly scaffolded.
Students again praised case‑based learning across lectures and seminars and asked for more formative practice opportunities—these activities are described as the primary means of translating knowledge into clinical reasoning and preparing for assessments.
Cohort perceptions of assessment fairness fell (59.7% agree/strongly agree in 2024–25 vs 70.6% in 2023–24), and students reported uncertainty about exam scope, item formats, and timing; program‑year breakdowns show especially low agreement in Year 1 (41.2% agree/strongly agree) this cycle. The AFPC graduating‑student perspective, however, continued to rate assessment methods and clarity highly (assessment methods 83.5% agree/strongly agree; learning outcomes communicated clearly 83.5%), providing a complementary viewpoint from near‑graduates.
While many small‑group seminars and debriefs were seen as effective, numerous students described seminars devolving into unfacilitated work or unhelpful whole‑class reviews and asked for posted keys and clearer facilitator expectations; slide/ resource variability and guest‑lecturer misalignment were recurring concerns.
The 2024–25 story preserves 2023–24 strengths (case‑based seminars, formative quizzes, and value placed on integration), and the variability in seminar facilitation and slide/guest‑lecturer quality persists. What is different is that perceptions of assessment fairness and clarity declined this year (cohort view), making assessment design and communication a more pronounced issue than in the prior cycle; sequencing/workload concerns also remain a steady theme.
In the Keep responses students reiterated that case seminars, weekly quizzes, and hands‑on clinics/labs are the most helpful learning practices; cohort items for instructional coherence (75.3% agree/strongly agree) and integration across courses (79.1% agree/strongly agree) are strongly positive.
Structured prompts focused student attention on seminar team size, insufficient seminar time, repetitive debriefs, unclear assignment expectations, and high‑stakes item formats (multi‑select/time pressure); these operational issues were foregrounded more explicitly than in prior narrative prompts.
Students described lectures and seminars scheduled too close together, content split across courses in ways that hindered sense‑making, clustered assessments/assignments (including new AI care‑plan work) and inconsistent instructor feedback — themes that echo earlier cycles but with new emphasis on assignment scaffolding and novel activities.
Like 2024–25, 2025–26 keeps the same basic pattern: seminars, formative checks, and integration are valued while assessment clarity, sequencing, and workload remain concerns. What differs is the emphasis in the 2025–26 responses (driven by the Keep/Fix/Sequencing prompt): students call out specific seminar logistics (team size, time management), new assessment/assignment types (AI care plans), and clearer scaffolding needs—issues that persist but are described with more operational detail under the new question frame.

What are students telling us about their experience of this stream?
In this cycle, students were asked to explain reasons for their high or low ratings, with particular emphasis on lower ratings that could help improve the learning experience. The themes below preserve the existing qualitative analysis of those responses.
Students overwhelmingly praised seminars that used patient cases—both as standalone seminar activities and integrated into lectures—as central to learning. They said working through realistic scenarios helped them practice clinical reasoning, apply lecture content, and solidify processes (Data → Assessment → Plan). Seminars that included instructor walkthroughs, group discussion, and debriefs were specifically valued.
Students valued regular formative quizzes (end-of-week, pre- or post-seminar) as tools for self-assessment and staying on track. Many noted these quizzes were helpful for identifying knowledge gaps, supporting study habits, and reducing the need for high-stakes assignments.
Students noted improved learning when therapeutics topics were coordinated with skills labs and related courses (e.g., vaccination content taught together, labs following lectures by 1–2 weeks). They appreciated when separate therapeutics topics were sequenced to build on one another (e.g., asthma → COPD) and when instructors related topics across disease states for a holistic approach.
Students appreciated lectures that followed a predictable format (condition → epidemiology/risk → treatment options), included clear learning objectives, summary/conclusion slides (monitoring/follow-up, dosing charts), and guidance about what to focus on for assessments and practice. Early posting/recording of materials was also noted as helpful for preparation.
Students reported that in-lecture polling (Menti), Padlet, and intermittent in-class questions helped reflection and retention. In seminars, instructor walk-throughs and instructors visiting seminar rooms to check understanding were singled out as helpful for identifying and addressing knowledge gaps.
Many students reported exams and quizzes felt misaligned with communicated expectations and lecture content — characterized as overly detailed or focused on small facts from CPS/readings rather than main concepts taught in lectures. Several respondents described midterms as 'nit-picky' or 'grey' (ambiguous) and suggested that open-book formats or allowing resource use would better reflect clinical practice. Students also requested clearer upfront guidance about expected answer formats and access to exam review sessions with rationales.
Students described seminars as variably useful: some find practice cases valuable, but many report seminars devolve into silent independent work or rushed group narrations without sufficient facilitator-led synthesis. Debriefs are sometimes redundant, lack clear answers/rationales, or take excessive time reading slides. Students asked for more accountability, clearer seminar expectations, alternative formats (e.g., stations, structured group rotations), and post-seminar answer keys or concise rationales.
Students reported variability across lecturers in slide quality, focus, and exam-relevant messaging. Specific complaints included overly long slide decks, text-heavy slides (noted especially in pediatrics and 448), lecturers who read slides without added synthesis, late posting or edited lecture recordings, and inconsistent statements across guest speakers causing confusion about standard practice.
Students described heavy total content and tight timing (e.g., key concepts taught one day and applied in a seminar the next), substantial reading expectations (CPS/readings) perceived as not fully integrated into lectures, and overlap with other courses. Course 448 was repeatedly flagged as particularly overwhelming, poorly structured, and anxiety-inducing, with calls to clarify expectations, weighting, and how seminar/lecture/readings interrelate.
Students requested faster turnaround on graded work and clearer, accessible feedback. They asked for explicit learning objectives tied to assessments, more detailed exam reviews (rationales), and post-seminar answer keys or concise rationales to clarify grey areas and support self-study.
Multiple respondents described lectures where instructors rushed through slides near the end of class, omitted material, or extended beyond planned time; long debrief sessions (45–50 minutes) were described as repetitive and sometimes disengaging.
Students identified repeated coverage of material across courses (examples named: PHARM243 content repeated in later therapeutics, overlap with Pharmaceutics and ID modules, ophthalmology repeating PHARM343, pediatric content repeating elsewhere), and internal duplication (e.g., HSV covered twice in one course).
Students reported that therapeutic content is unevenly distributed across years (e.g., Year 1 underused for therapeutics, Year 2 overloaded, Year 3 lighter/capstone), and that some topics were placed awkwardly (e.g., advanced transplant in toxicology, special-population considerations left to final semester), which impaired the perceived logic of content progression.

Students repeatedly reported that embedding authentic patient cases into lectures and seminars (short in-class cases, seminar problems, and case debriefs) helped translate theory to practice and should be used more broadly across courses.
Students valued multiple low-stakes practice opportunities (optional quizzes, mentimeter questions, eClass practice quizzes, end-of-week quizzes, and non-graded cases) to consolidate learning and identify gaps; they expressed desire for more such opportunities.
Small-group seminars that allow students to work through cases, then participate in a whole-class debrief, were described as particularly effective for applying knowledge; students appreciated predictable seminar formats and the time to discuss cases.
Students appreciated guest lecturers, interprofessional labs (e.g., physio mobility aids), vaccination training, hearing from patients, and other practical experiences that connected classroom content to real practice.
Students valued instructors who signaled precisely what would be assessed (what to know for exams) and those who distributed assessment (e.g., two midterms rather than one). Students report uncertainty about what is expected on exams (which topics and the level of detail), inconsistent messages about what must be memorized (e.g., dosing expectations), frequent use of time‑pressured quizzes and exams that feel too short for the complexity of questions, frequent use of select-all-that-apply items that test multiple concepts for a single low-value mark, and perception that assessment formats or weighting (small midterm, large final) amplify stress.
Students describe seminars as uneven in learning value: many find the initial case-work useful but the latter portion (going through an answer key in class) unproductive. Several asked for posted keys or instructor solution outlines after seminars and reported not receiving feedback on case work. There are also comments that seminar cases are sometimes unrepresentative of clinical practice or excessively difficult.
Students note variability in the clarity, organization, and assessment alignment of guest lecturers and occasional main lecturers. Some guest lecturers are praised while others are described as poor or misaligned with exam material; students suggest inconsistent expectations across presenters.
Students report chaotic slide formatting and inconsistent inclusion of important content (e.g., clinical guidelines, dosing) in slides versus readings. Multiple comments asked for a centralized, clearly organized set of guideline documents or consolidated resources on the learning platform to support review.
PHARM 448 was described by some students as disappointing relative to its advertised capstone purpose: students expected advanced integrative cases and expert walkthroughs, but reported limited consolidation of prior knowledge, lack of feedback on cases, and some seminar cases that did not reflect clinical practice.
Multiple respondents described repeated coverage of the same topic areas across different courses and years (examples cited: dermatology, GI/OTC topics, ophthalmology, and pediatric material), creating perceived duplication rather than progressive scaffolding; some students found the repeats helpful for reinforcement, while others felt it was redundant and could be reorganized to present a single coherent sequence.
Students reported imbalanced course loads (e.g., multiple major therapy topics clustered in one semester especially in 3rd year fall), abrupt topic transitions (post-midterm vs pre-midterm pacing differences), and sections that felt rushed or unevenly paced across the term, contributing to cognitive overload and reduced engagement.
Respondents identified missing or insufficient instruction on practical clinical topics/skills within the stream: IV dosing and administration, hazardous/cytotoxic drug handling, certain fungal infections and opportunistic infections, peripheral vascular disease, travel health, and some pregnancy-specific issues (e.g., Rh typing). Several comments noted no catch-up or resources were provided when the cohort missed topics other years received.
Students reported seminar quizzes and some exams were perceived as time-pressured, focused on minute details rather than main therapeutic principles, or inconsistent with lecture emphasis. Multiple comments described seminar quizzes as a 'scavenger hunt,' unclear testable content, and poor alignment between lecture timing and seminar quizzes (e.g., seminar content being tested the same day it was taught).
Frequent use of guest lecturers with differing levels of alignment to the curriculum led to inconsistent depth, redundancy, unclear expectations for assessments, and occasional coverage of material that either overlapped with other years or was not calibrated to students' prior knowledge.

Students describe clear strengths—Seminar-based, case-focused learning should be retained; Formative, low-stakes quizzes and knowledge checks; Experiential practice and integration with skills labs (including BP clinics); and Assessment structure features that reduce stress—and they value Integration of cases across lectures, seminars, and skills labs. At the same time, tensions arise around Seminar format, team size, timing, and debrief experience; Assessment design, weighting, and item format concerns; Unclear assignment and assessment expectations and alignment; and Lecture–seminar sequencing and scheduling problems, cross-course fragmentation, and assessment/assignment clustering that create feedback and workload pressures.

For each structured stream-feedback question, de-identified comments from students in Years 1-3 were analyzed together. The existing qualitative analysis grouped related observations into named themes and wrote a bounded paraphrase for each theme. These themes are the reviewer-facing qualitative evidence shown above.
The analysis was instructed to preserve disagreement, exceptions, and program-year differences when evident, but the structured theme output did not include a theme-level program-year attribution field. For that reason, C05 reports that Years 1-3 contributed to the analysis and does not infer that a theme belongs primarily to a specific year.
Theme order, the number of themes, and qualitative analysis-support notes are not estimates of prevalence. Raw student comments are not rendered.

This workspace brings together student ratings and student-described experience for the selected pharmacy stream. The Annual Cohort Survey represents students in Years 1–3, while the AFPC Graduating Student Survey provides a graduating-student perspective. Student comments from the Annual Cohort Survey provide additional context about teaching, learning activities, assessment, feedback, organization, and curriculum sequencing.
The sources are kept separate because they represent different groups of students and do not always ask the same questions. Evidence is shown for the academic cycles in which it is available rather than filling gaps or treating different sources as interchangeable.
Students rated the learning-environment statements on a six-point scale from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree. The coloured bars show the full distribution of responses rather than reducing the result to one score. Reviewers can inspect the median, the middle 50% of responses, and the percentage who selected Agree or Strongly Agree for additional context.
Survey statements changed in some years. Results are compared across academic cycles only when the available questions support that comparison. When a result is unavailable or a question changed substantially, the report leaves that limitation visible rather than reconstructing a value or uninterrupted trend.
For 2023–24 and 2024–25, students were asked to explain reasons for their high and low ratings, with particular encouragement to describe lower ratings that could help improve the program. De-identified comments were grouped into named themes through the established structured OpenAI-assisted qualitative analysis, and concise paraphrased summaries were retained for reporting.
In 2025–26, the qualitative questions became more specific. Students were asked about practices worth keeping, things that could be improved, and issues involving curriculum sequencing, gaps, or redundancy. Those responses were analyzed into the three corresponding theme groups shown in the workspace.
Because students were asked different kinds of questions across these years, the qualitative evidence is presented in a way that reflects the questions students actually answered. The older and newer themes are not treated as one directly comparable thematic trend.
The report first organizes the survey ratings and disclosure-safe student-comment themes for each stream and academic cycle. AI-assisted writing is then used to create concise reviewer-facing orientation and review questions from that prepared evidence. The current Review Summary can also compare the overall story with the immediately preceding academic cycle when both are available.
AI-assisted writing does not calculate the survey distributions, decide whether the stream is effective, determine why a pattern occurred, set priorities, or recommend changes. Those judgments remain with the educators reviewing the evidence.
The written summaries and questions are prepared before the report is displayed. Opening or browsing this report does not send a new request to an AI service.
The ratings describe students’ experiences of the learning environment; they are not direct measures of learning-outcome achievement. A visible difference between academic cycles or program years does not, by itself, establish that an educationally important improvement or decline occurred.
Qualitative themes show the ideas identified in the analyzed comments. The number of themes, their order on the page, and their visual position should not be interpreted as how common or important an opinion was unless that information is explicitly reported.
