This workspace moves from student-experience ratings to student-described evidence and then to connections across those perspectives, helping reviewers understand the learning environment, inspect the evidence behind the summaries, and identify questions for curriculum review.

Annual Cohort Survey and AFPC Graduating Student Survey are shown separately because they provide different perspectives on the learning environment.
Student comments are summarized to add context to the ratings. Annual Cohort Survey evidence can also be inspected by program year where the source supports it. These summaries do not indicate how common a view was.
What should I notice as I review this evidence?
Cohort responses show clarity of learning outcomes rated positively (majority agree/strongly agree, median 5), while fairness of assessment methods is more mixed; qualitative comments flagged ambiguous or misaligned exam questions and concerns about subjective marking.
Students consistently praised weekly/biweekly quizzes, case‑based seminars, interactive polling, and timely individualized feedback as practices that supported learning and reduced exam anxiety.
Many students described perceived disorganization across lectures/sequencing, seminars that felt like busywork or were poorly structured, and third‑year projects with unclear scope, inconsistent mentorship, heavy weighting, and group‑work inequities.
Cohort ratings for clarity of learning outcomes and fairness of assessment shifted upward (medians at 5 and higher agree+ percentages), and graduating‑student (AFPC) responses also reported clearer outcomes and assessment methods, providing corroborating perspective from near‑graduates.
Students again highlighted quizzes, seminars that directly apply lecture content to projects, interactive lecture techniques, and clear slide/outcome communication as practices that help manage workload and learning.
Qualitative feedback continued to report seminars as uneven in quality/value, uneven mentorship and assessment fairness on capstone projects, and questions about the balance/placement of business‑focused material versus pharmacy‑facing content.
Compared with 2023‑24, students in 2024‑25 reported clearer learning outcomes and more favourable views of assessment fairness (quantitatively and in AFPC graduate responses); however, themes about seminar variability, uneven project support, and sequencing/redundancy persisted rather than resolved.
Program‑year splits show Year 1 students reporting high agreement that teaching, integration, and feedback work together, while Year 3 students report much lower agreement—integration of knowledge and seminar usefulness are particularly weak in later years.
In the structured Keep/Fix prompts students advocated retaining case‑based seminars and weekly quizzes, while asking that seminars be shorter, more focused, better linked to project steps, and supported with clearer objectives and materials.
Across Keep/Fix/Sequencing responses students converged on problems with project scaffolding (unclear scope, inconsistent mentor alignment, equity in team work), concerns about midterm/quiz weighting and exam clarity, and timing misalignments that leave some content distant from applied courses or rotations.
Relative to 2024‑25 the broad narrative remains: students value applied seminars and frequent quizzes, but 2025‑26 places stronger, explicit emphasis on fixing semester projects and seminar design and highlights a sharper program‑year divide (Year 1 positive; Year 3 persistent deficits in integration, seminars, and feedback). This persists despite the 2025‑26 change to Keep/Fix sequencing prompts, so interpret thematic continuity with instrument change in mind.

Year 3 students report notably weaker endorsement across multiple aspects (fairness of assessment methods, clarity of learning outcomes, teaching methods, seminar experiences, and feedback) compared with Years 1 and 2 — agree+ percentages for those items in 2023–24 are substantially lower in Y3 (e.g., fairness 22.7%, clarity 24%) than in Y1 (fairness 53.7%, clarity 69.9%). Across the cohort overall the medians sit around 4–5, but the program‑year profiles reveal that the overall distribution hides this clear Y3 dip while Y1 shows much stronger agreement on the same aspects.

Y1 students in 2023–24 show consistently strong agreement that learning outcomes are clear and that teaching methods and feedback support achievement (agree+ commonly in the mid‑60s to 70s across items). The Y1 distributions are concentrated toward agree/strongly agree (medians at 5) compared with later years, so the first‑year experience is markedly more positive on these aspects.

The 2024–25 overall cohort shows stronger agreement than 2023–24 on clarity of learning outcomes, fairness of assessment, teaching methods and feedback — much of this improvement is driven by Year 1, whose agree+ percentages are substantially higher and concentrated in agree/strongly agree. What are students telling us about their experience of this stream?
In this cycle, students were asked to explain reasons for their high or low ratings, with particular emphasis on lower ratings that could help improve the learning experience. The themes below preserve the existing qualitative analysis of those responses.
Students repeatedly said weekly/regular low-weight quizzes (often open-book and cumulative over small weights) helped them stay current with material, reduced exam anxiety, and served as useful formative checks on understanding.
Seminars that prioritize application—working through cases, practicing calculations, role-play/debates, and structured worksheets—were described as highly effective for moving from theory to practice and were consistently cited as high-value instructional time.
Use of polling tools (Menti), live questions, and small in-class activities were frequently mentioned as effective engagement and comprehension checks that help structure thinking for assessments.
Students appreciated multi‑week projects and in-class time to work on them, but several noted inconsistent mentor expectations, insufficient scaffolding on implementing projects, and timing concerns (wanting more project time later in term).
Students valued prompt, specific feedback on seminar worksheets and exemplars (completed slide decks, example materials posted online) as helpful for corrective learning and exam preparation.
Bringing in lawyers, advocacy groups, and practitioners and discussing real cases or instructors’ own practice helped students link content to professional application and diversity of perspectives.

Many students described lectures and course sequencing as disorganized, with unclear learning objectives and inconsistent messaging between instructors. This made it hard to understand what students were expected to learn or retain, and contributed to reduced attendance and engagement in some cohorts.
Third-year students reported that term projects felt poorly scoped and assessed: expectations and rubrics were unclear, grading felt subjective, projects were heavily weighted, mentor support was inconsistent, and team dynamics often left a few students doing most work. Some students questioned the practical value of business-focused projects for all learners.
Students frequently characterized many seminars as redundant, superficial, or overloaded with small tasks, resulting in rushed activity completion and limited learning. Some seminar structures (pre-briefs, multiple short activities, laptop policies) were reported as counterproductive. A subset of seminars and seminar instructors were identified as useful and engaging.
Students reported exam and quiz questions that were poorly worded, relied on tricky reading-comprehension of minutiae, or tested material not clearly covered in lectures/seminars. Several asked for more practice questions and clearer alignment between teaching depth and assessment expectations.
A number of comments recounted instances of contradictory instructor behaviour, perceived unprofessional interactions, or communication breakdowns that negatively affected classroom trust and students' willingness to engage. Other students simultaneously reported positive experiences with different instructors, indicating variability.
Students noted operational issues (lecture capture/technology problems, cold classroom conditions, last-minute sign-ups for required activities, and scheduling that reduced attendance for certain important events), which increased stress and hindered participation.
Several students felt there were too many assigned readings and frequent reflections, producing fatigue and limited time to engage deeply. Some pre-brief activities were seen as less useful than written materials would be, reducing in-class working time.
Many students felt the same topics are taught repeatedly across multiple BASE courses/semesters (communication skills lectures, advocacy content, ADR/drug-safety sessions, and some EBM material). Repetition was experienced as redundant rather than progressive, with several students noting multiple near-identical lectures or guest speakers across years.
Students report that subjects are fragmented across separate BASE courses (content split into pieces across different classes or semesters) and that lecture timing sometimes precedes related seminars or project application by weeks, which undermines retention and application. Students described misalignment between what is emphasized in lectures and what appears on quizzes/exams (ambiguous question wording, testing of material not emphasized in class), limited formative practice for evidence-based skills (difficulty with EBM/statistics on exams), delayed release of marks, and concerns that some assessments (weekly MCQs, open-book quizzes) do not match the skills-focused learning goals.
Students found EBM/statistics content challenging and reported insufficient in-class practice and formative opportunities (few practice questions prior to midterms, unclear quizzes, missing practical calculation practice). Some noted that evidence topics felt inconsistently delivered (different guest lecturers repeating the same resources) and that seminar connection to evidence content could be improved.
Students frequently noted insufficient dedicated seminar time for team projects, open work periods that are too few or too early in the term, inconvenient BCR submission timing and rules that discourage attendance at later sessions, and a perceived lack of guidance for multi-semester projects (e.g., business plan). These factors were described as creating practical gaps between instruction and required deliverables.

Many students described lectures as unclear in objectives, repetitive, or not well connected to pharmacy practice; several felt lectures emphasized business/administrative topics (inventory, finance, marketing, HR) beyond what is useful for most students and that slides often lacked explanatory detail. Some students suggested content felt like filling hours rather than targeted learning. A minority commented that some lecturers were effective.
Numerous comments characterized seminars as poor uses of time: material felt like busy work, seminars lacked sufficient practice time or instructor feedback, and seminar activities (especially for EBM) were not sufficiently debriefed. Some students felt seminar time could be better used for independent work or for supervised practice following a lecture.
Students reported misalignment between lecture content and quizzes/exams (including a quiz perceived as not reflecting lecture material), ambiguity and nuance in question wording, questions that feel like English tests, inconsistent closed-book vs open-book preparation, and marking perceived as subjective or overly critical. There were also logistical concerns about quiz closing times.
Students described uneven mentorship for capstone projects, limited instructor/TA feedback during project development (often only mentor feedback), and perceptions that presentation performance sometimes outweighed the substantive quality of the final product when marking, producing apparent unfairness between groups.
Several students questioned the proportion and placement of business/administrative topics in BASE (noting overlap with MBA/PharmD content) and suggested important pharmacy-facing topics (jurisprudence, licensing/PEBC preparation) received less emphasis. Comments referenced the spiral sequencing approach as confusing and noted that third-year BASE 5/6 felt particularly heavy in business content.
Students repeatedly reported difficulty with EBM material: seminars were not providing adequate time or debriefing to work through cases, lecture coverage felt confusing or insufficiently scaffolded, and students requested more structure, practice questions, and clearer slides to support learning in this area.
Multiple respondents said foundational topics taught in early years—particularly jurisprudence, licensing/standards of practice, and common payer/insurance processes—are needed again later (not necessarily full repeats), especially prior to experiential requirements or external exams. They framed this as a sequencing issue: earlier coverage exists but there is insufficient timely reinforcement before application or assessment in year 3.
Students reported repetitive delivery of the same material across semesters or by multiple presenters (examples included drug reporting/insurance presentations and some administrative topics). Some saw repetition as time-wasting; a minority saw repetition as reinforcement. Redundancy complaints often noted identical slides or sessions repeated with little new value.
Respondents reported misalignment: seminars often occurred after assessments or did not prepare students for assessed content; project instructions were unclear or poorly timed (leading to last-minute work); and assessed material sometimes exceeded lecture coverage. These are sequencing and integration issues within the stream between learning events and evaluation tasks.

Students praise seminar-style case-based sessions, weekly low-stakes quizzes, and community advocacy/capstone projects as effective for applied learning, but they also describe tensions: semester projects and seminars can lack clear scope, guidance, and alignment; assessment design and logistical issues (recordings, slides, audio, tech) raise concerns; and curriculum sequencing prompts notes about topic repetition, timing mismatches with applied work, questions about practical relevance of some BASE content, and limited depth of Indigenous integration.

For each structured stream-feedback question, de-identified comments from students in Years 1-3 were analyzed together. The existing qualitative analysis grouped related observations into named themes and wrote a bounded paraphrase for each theme. These themes are the reviewer-facing qualitative evidence shown above.
The analysis was instructed to preserve disagreement, exceptions, and program-year differences when evident, but the structured theme output did not include a theme-level program-year attribution field. For that reason, C05 reports that Years 1-3 contributed to the analysis and does not infer that a theme belongs primarily to a specific year.
Theme order, the number of themes, and qualitative analysis-support notes are not estimates of prevalence. Raw student comments are not rendered.

This workspace brings together student ratings and student-described experience for the selected pharmacy stream. The Annual Cohort Survey represents students in Years 1–3, while the AFPC Graduating Student Survey provides a graduating-student perspective. Student comments from the Annual Cohort Survey provide additional context about teaching, learning activities, assessment, feedback, organization, and curriculum sequencing.
The sources are kept separate because they represent different groups of students and do not always ask the same questions. Evidence is shown for the academic cycles in which it is available rather than filling gaps or treating different sources as interchangeable.
Students rated the learning-environment statements on a six-point scale from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree. The coloured bars show the full distribution of responses rather than reducing the result to one score. Reviewers can inspect the median, the middle 50% of responses, and the percentage who selected Agree or Strongly Agree for additional context.
Survey statements changed in some years. Results are compared across academic cycles only when the available questions support that comparison. When a result is unavailable or a question changed substantially, the report leaves that limitation visible rather than reconstructing a value or uninterrupted trend.
For 2023–24 and 2024–25, students were asked to explain reasons for their high and low ratings, with particular encouragement to describe lower ratings that could help improve the program. De-identified comments were grouped into named themes through the established structured OpenAI-assisted qualitative analysis, and concise paraphrased summaries were retained for reporting.
In 2025–26, the qualitative questions became more specific. Students were asked about practices worth keeping, things that could be improved, and issues involving curriculum sequencing, gaps, or redundancy. Those responses were analyzed into the three corresponding theme groups shown in the workspace.
Because students were asked different kinds of questions across these years, the qualitative evidence is presented in a way that reflects the questions students actually answered. The older and newer themes are not treated as one directly comparable thematic trend.
The report first organizes the survey ratings and disclosure-safe student-comment themes for each stream and academic cycle. AI-assisted writing is then used to create concise reviewer-facing orientation and review questions from that prepared evidence. The current Review Summary can also compare the overall story with the immediately preceding academic cycle when both are available.
AI-assisted writing does not calculate the survey distributions, decide whether the stream is effective, determine why a pattern occurred, set priorities, or recommend changes. Those judgments remain with the educators reviewing the evidence.
The written summaries and questions are prepared before the report is displayed. Opening or browsing this report does not send a new request to an AI service.
The ratings describe students’ experiences of the learning environment; they are not direct measures of learning-outcome achievement. A visible difference between academic cycles or program years does not, by itself, establish that an educationally important improvement or decline occurred.
Qualitative themes show the ideas identified in the analyzed comments. The number of themes, their order on the page, and their visual position should not be interpreted as how common or important an opinion was unless that information is explicitly reported.
The Annual Cohort Survey and AFPC survey are separate perspectives and are not pooled into one score. When evidence is missing, was not asked, or cannot reasonably be compared with another year, the report shows that limitation rather than filling it in.
